Join artist Helen Peters for a creative mixed-media workshop inspired by Barbara Hepworth in Greece. Drawing on the sculptures and prints featured in the exhibition, you will explore shape, line, form and composition to create a series of small abstract textile artworks.
Begin by spending time in the exhibition, observing the distinctive shapes, lines and visual rhythms found in Barbara Hepworth’s work. Returning to the studio, Helen will guide you through a paper collage activity, where you’ll explore abstract design and composition. These collages will act as a starting point for developing your ideas in fabric.
Into the afternoon, experiment with layering, colour and texture as you translate your designs into stitched abstract compositions. Over the course of the workshop, you will work with a combination of textiles collage, hand stitch and fabric dye sticks, to create a series of small textile pieces inspired by the exhibition.
The workshop encourages creativity, experimentation and personal expression, with guidance and support throughout. No previous textile experience needed, and beginners are welcome.

Helen is a Brighton based art educator and facilitator with extensive and varied experience working for local museums and galleries and in adult education. Helen is committed to creating a friendly and supportive space where individuals enjoy exploring their creativity.
Helen’s own artistic practice uses textiles and mixed media processes, and she enjoys responding to unusual objects found in museum collections.
