Pallant House Gallery is located in central Chichester at 8–9 North Pallant, Chichester, West Sussex PO19 1TJ.

We are open every day except Mondays. 

Regular opening hours (Gallery, Shop & Café): 

• Tuesday – Saturday: 10am – 5pm 
• Sundays & Bank Holidays: 10am – 4pm   
• Mondays: Closed 

Last entry is one hour before closing. 

We occasionally operate special opening hours during national holidays, which you can check here. 

We recommend booking your Gallery admission tickets online in advance. Booking ahead guarantees your entry, helps you make the most of your visit and allows for a quicker check-in when you arrive. 

If you have not booked in advance, you are still very welcome to purchase tickets at the Welcome Desk on the day of your visit, subject to availability. 

If you are planning to attend a talk, workshop or special event, we strongly recommend booking in advance, as these often have limited capacity and can sell out. 

Your admission ticket provides access to all exhibitions and displays at Pallant House Gallery. Entry to the Ground Floor and the Print Room exhibition is free.

Yes. We are committed to making the Gallery as accessible as possible. 

Free entry is available for: 

• Under 18s 
• Claimants of Jobseekers allowance, Universal Credit, DLA, ESA, PIP 
• Disabled person’s companions 
• Museums Association and ICOM members 

Discounted entry: 

• Defence Discount Service and Blue Light Card holders receive 20% off (a discount code is required at checkout) 

Proof of eligibility will be requested on arrival. If you qualify for a concession, tickets can be booked online, or by visiting the welcome desk at the Gallery on arrival.  

Access to Art Pass: 

If you’re part of a local community group, you could be eligible for a free Access to Art Pass. The pass is available to organisations supporting people who may not usually visit the Gallery or who need additional support to do so. To apply on behalf of your organisation, please get in touch. 

We recommend allowing one to two hours for your visit. Many visitors choose to spend longer enjoying the Gallery Bookshop or relaxing in the Café. 

Tickets for future dates can be booked online via our website. 

Same-day tickets can also be booked online when the gallery is open.

Yes. Gift memberships and vouchers can be purchased online or at our Welcome Desk. 

Yes. Pallant House Gallery is wheelchair accessible, with step-free routes and lift access to all public areas. Please note the pathways leading to the Gallery are narrow and uneven in places.

Yes. There are two accessible toilets on the ground floor, offering both left- and right-hand transference options. The right-hand transference toilet also includes a level-access shower. 

The nearest Changing Places Toilet is located at Northgate Car Park, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1BL. The what3words location is oiled.wacky.refers. 

Yes. Guide Dogs and registered Assistance Dogs are welcome throughout the Gallery. 

Yes. All exhibitions have large-print versions of wall texts and labels, which can be downloaded in advance of your visit or accessed in folders within the Gallery spaces. 

We also offer an audio guide via Bloomberg Connects, allowing you to explore exhibitions at your own pace using your own device.

Additional facilities and support include: 

• A lowered section of the Welcome Desk for wheelchair users, located just inside the main entrance on the left 
• A large lift from the main reception area, providing access to all levels of the Gallery 
• Secure handrails on staircases and within the lift 
• Audio announcements in the lift indicating each floor 
• Two wheelchairs available to borrow from the Welcome Desk, which can be reserved in advance by calling or emailing us 
• A downloadable floorplan, available to view ahead of your visit

Yes, Pallant House Gallery is fun for all the family. Children and young people under 18 go free making Pallant House Gallery an affordable choice for a family day out in Chichester. Pick up a family trail or one of our family activity backpacks and let curiosity guide you around our historic house and contemporary wing. 

Yes. The Gallery is pram-friendly, with level access via our main entrance on North Pallant. All public areas of the Gallery are accessible by lift. We also have a space behind the Welcome Desk where you can leave your pushchair while you explore the Gallery. 

Toilets and baby changing facilities are available on the ground floor. 

We are part of the Breastfeeding Friendly Scheme, and breastfeeding is welcome anywhere in the Gallery. Many of our Gallery spaces include benches, offering comfortable places to sit during your visit. 

Highchairs are available to use, simply ask in the cafe. If you want to eat your own food, you can sit behind the beech hedge in the courtyard garden, or on the bench that runs along the back of the courtyard.

Yes. We offer a range of self-led and structured activities designed to encourage families to explore art together. 

• Ways of Looking bags are available to borrow and can be used throughout the Gallery to help children and visitors of all ages to engage with artworks in a playful and imaginative way. Please ask at the Welcome Desk for details. 
• Look out for our family trails, featuring hidden objects to spot as you explore. Each trail is inspired by our current exhibitions and is free to pick up on arrival. 

During school holidays, we also run creative workshops for children. These sessions are inspired by our collection and temporary exhibitions and are led by our Artist Educators. Click here to learn more about family activities this season. 

We present a rich programme of temporary exhibitions, collection displays and site-specific installations throughout the year. 

Our current exhibitions include: 

• British Landscapes: A Sense of Place – on display until 1 Nov 2026 
• Haroun Hayward: Path through Trees – on display until 1 Nov 2026 
• From Bawden to Hockney: The Dennis Andrews and Christopher Whelen Collection – on display until 9 August 2026 
• Rana Begum: No. 1367 Mesh (installation) – on display until Summer 2026

Our main temporary exhibitions change every six months, allowing time to explore each exhibition in depth while offering regular opportunities to discover something new. 

Alongside this, we regularly refresh displays from our permanent collection and present smaller exhibitions in our Print Room. 

Yes. Your admission ticket includes access to all exhibitions and displays on view during your visit. 

Yes. Due to limited capacity and high demand, we strongly recommend booking tickets for talks and events in advance to avoid disappointment. 

Occasionally, a small number of tickets may be available on the day. Please ask at the Welcome Desk when you arrive and our team will be happy to advise. 

Refunds for Gallery events are only available if the event is cancelled. We are unable to offer refunds for non-attendance or changes in personal circumstances. See our terms and conditions for more information. 

Yes. Pallant House Gallery offers a range of schools, learning and engagement programmes, working with teachers, students and community groups to support learning through art.

Yes. Our Community Programme provides meaningful, long-term creative opportunities for adults with a range of support needs in a welcoming and supportive environment.

We also run two monthly wellbeing sessions that are open to everyone (booking required). Creative Conversations is a discussion group exploring selected artworks in the Gallery, while Wellbeing Wednesdays offers mindful drawing and creative activities inspired by the collection. Both sessions are dementia friendly.

Yes. Pallant House Gallery is home to Pallant Café which serves delicious, fresh and seasonal food in the unique setting of the Gallery, making it an ideal place to pause before or after your visit.

No. A Gallery admission ticket is not required to visit either the café or the shop. Both are open to everyone and can be enjoyed independently of an exhibition visit. 

We offer a range of facilities to support a comfortable visit: 

• Toilets, located within the Gallery 
• A cloak rail and lockers for coats and bags, situated just beyond the Welcome Desk 
• An umbrella stand, available during wet weather 
• Water cooler for refilling water bottles (can be found on the ground floor, next to the lockers)

Please note that we do not have a dedicated luggage storage facility. Our lockers measure 40cm high × 9.5cm wide × 40cm deep and require a £1 coin or locker token to use. As a result, we are unable to accommodate suitcases or other large items. 

Large bags must be stored in a locker during your visit. Backpacks may be brought into the Gallery but must be carried on your front while in the exhibition spaces to help protect the artworks and ensure a comfortable experience for all visitors. 

Yes. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout much of the Gallery. Due to the nature of our historic house, signal strength may vary and Wi-Fi may not be accessible in this area. 

If you need help connecting, or advice on where the signal is strongest, please speak to a member of staff at the Welcome Desk. 

Pallant House Gallery is conveniently located in the centre of Chichester and can be reached by a variety of transport options: 

• By bike: Bike racks are available outside the main entrance. Additional racks can be found on East Street and throughout Chichester town centre. 
• By train: The Gallery is a 0.3 mile walk from Chichester Railway Station, on a paved footpath. Direct trains run from London Victoria, Brighton, Portsmouth, Southampton, and Gatwick Airport. Connections to/from London Waterloo are available via Havant, and trains to/from London Bridge connect at Gatwick Airport. 
• By bus: Regular bus services run from Felpham, Bognor Regis, Portsmouth and Littlehampton. The bus station is less than half a mile from the Gallery. 
• By car: Chichester is easily accessed via the M27 and A27, linking Hampshire, Sussex and Kent. The M3, A3, A29, A259 and A24 connect Portsmouth, Southampton, Mid-Sussex and London.

Yes. There are ten car parks in and around central Chichester. The closest are: 

• South Pallant Car Park 
• East Pallant Car Park

Disabled parking bays are available on North Pallant for visitors with accessibility needs. 

Yes, photography for personal, non-commercial use is usually allowed. Wall texts within the Gallery will indicate in which exhibitions photography is permitted. 

Visitors are asked to respect copyright and the rights of other visitors: 

• Do not obstruct the view of others when taking photographs. 
• Do not photograph other visitors without their permission.

Yes. We encourage artistic engagement with dry materials only, and welcome visitors to sketch in the galleries. Benches are available throughout the spaces to sit and draw comfortably. 

No. To help preserve the artworks and maintain a pleasant environment for all visitors, food and drink are not permitted in the galleries.
