Discover more about lithography and the processes behind the printing method with print specialist, Louise Dennis. In this experimental workshop we will explore a low-tech version of this technique, using many materials that you would be able to find in your own home.
Begin your day with a visit to the Barbara Hepworth and Greece exhibition, studying shapes and forms that reoccur within her sculptures and lithographic prints. Returning to the Studio with inspiration we will then trial the success of different mark making materials towards your search for the marks that you enjoy the most.
Into the afternoon, you will work more independently, creating plates of your own designs to print from.
You will play with colour, using different methods, to add further interest to your shapes, forms and lines. By the end of the session, you will leave with the confidence to continue exploring this technique as well as taking away several prints to remind you of your day.
This workshop is open to all abilities, and we welcome anyone who has not tried any printing techniques before. The process does get messy, so please ensure you wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Aprons will be provided.

Louise Dennis
Louise creates inclusive, high-quality art experiences for all abilities, combining guidance with experimentation to make sessions fun, engaging, and exploratory.
After a fine art degree, she painted murals in hospitals in London and Cornwall, and later worked at Hove Museum as an exhibiting artist in residence, leading public workshops and coordinating family programmes. She also ran a popular after-school art club for seven years, using recycled materials to spark creativity. She is currently co-director of Starling Arts, delivering community wellbeing sessions and exhibitions for over-50s in Brighton.
Her practice spans paper model-making, photographed installations using recycled cardboard, low-tech printmaking, and detailed tonal pencil drawings. She also creates narrative work, including a short animation and a children’s picture book from her MA in illustration, and has exhibited internationally with Fabula, a collective she founded.
