What’s on?

In June we will be partnering with Chichester Pride to deliver a night full of fun with an incredible line-up of entertainment in the courtyard from 7pm.

For this month’s talk author Peter Parker will be in conversation with Gallery Director Simon Martin, as they discuss Peter’s book Some Men in London. This insightful anthology chronicles the history and reality of life for queer men in London following the Second World War, including several artists featured in our current exhibition.

July is inspired by our Print Room exhibition Ideas for Sculpture, where we’ll be exploring this 3D art form through an exclusive talk. Co-presenters of the Sculpting Lives podcast, Jo Baring (Director of the Ingram Collection of Modern British & Contemporary Art) and Sarah Victoria Turner (Director of the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art), will discuss Modern and Contemporary British women sculptors, including women artists on display at the Gallery such as Rana Begum, Barbara Hepworth and Rachel Whiteread.

In August enjoy a special screening of Derek, a film involving two courageous and innovative artists, Derek Jarman and Isaac Julien – one the subject and one the filmmaker. This unique film provides a cinematic journey that illuminates the work and enduring importance of the late Derek Jarman.

September sees us explore how artists present their identity to the world. Enjoy an exclusive talk and curator’s tour connected to the exhibition Rana Begum Curates: Opposing Forms, alongside musical entertainment and creative activities in partnership with the University of Chichester.

In October explore our headline exhibition Seeing Each Other: Portraits of Artists with a special talk and tour. Hear from exhibiting artists Chantal Joffe and Ishbel Myerscough in conversation with the Gallery’s Chief Curator Melanie Vandenbrouck on their life-long friendship and the place it holds in their practice. This conversation will provide a unique insight into the way artists see themselves and each other. Proudly supported by Principal Partner, Dreweatts.
