Welcome to the Summer season’s drop-in Life Drawing workshops, being held in the Gallery spaces from 6–8pm as part of our Thursday Late events on:
16 July 2026
17 September 2026
15 October 2026
Experienced tutor Wendy Barratt, Sky Portrait Artist of the Year 2023, will be based in the main exhibition gallery inviting you to take a seat, grab a drawing board and enjoy drawing from clothed life models in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
You do not need to book for these Life Drawing sessions as they are included in your Thursday Late admission ticket and are drop-in. Please note when busy we may have to limit numbers during the life drawing and run timed sessions to allow the maximum number of people to take part.
During Thursday Lates the Gallery is open until 8.30pm once a month (apart from our exhibition changeover months of May and November). You can take in our collection and exhibitions after hours and enjoy expert talks, tours and drop-in creative activities in the galleries. Pallant Café will be open serving a selection of food and drink and the Bookshop will be open to browse fabulous art books.
Wendy Barratt
Wendy Barratt is an artist who is fascinated with representing the human – both in portraiture and life drawing. Her portraiture is made primarily in oil paint whereas life drawing becomes an experiment in mostly dry media. She is the winner of Sky Portrait Artist of the Year 2023.
She studied graphic design in Manchester back in the early 80’s and has been working ever since as a designer, until a few years ago when she launched herself as a full-time artist. Throughout her career, she has spent a lot of her spare time in the life room honing her artistic skills as well as passing on her love of drawing and painting onto others through teaching.
Recently she has seen her paintings accepted for the Royal Society of Portrait Painters annual exhibition as well as having work exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery. Commissions include large portraits which were used as major props for the ITV Crime Drama series The Long Call. Wendy is a member of the Contemporary British Portrait Painters and her self-portrait was selected for the Herbert Smith Freehills Painting award show at the National Portrait Gallery in 2024.
