The Architect, the Duchess and 'the bin man who bagged a Picasso'.

In our first ever online talk, Director Simon Martin uncovers the the fascinating and unlikely stories behind the paintings and prints in Degas to Picasso: International Modern Masters.

From the American socialite Gladys Deacon, the Duchess of Marlborough, to binman and school caretaker Michael Woodford, we’ll explore how a remarkable set of individuals from across the 20th century channeled their passion for art into their collections.

Hear about the remarkable individuals who helped create our ‘collection of collections’, including Gladys Deacon, an aristocrat who had friendships with Auguste Rodin and Edgar Degas; Michael Woodford, a binman and caretaker who collected Picasso prints; Lord Jeremy Hutchinson (the barrister who defended Christine Keeler); the architect Colin St John Wilson who designed the Gallery’s contemporary wing; and more.
