Howl is a site-specific installation by contemporary artist Ro Robertson, created for the historic staircase of Pallant House Gallery.
Inspired by the rhythms of the Cornish coastline and the movements of the Sun, Moon and sea, Howl transforms the historic townhouse’s grand oak staircase into an immersive environment where painting and sculpture come together. A monumental mural of sweeping colour and luminous circular forms is paired with Robertson’s first suspended sculpture, Crosswaves, made from curved steel weathered by the sea at Porthmeor Beach in St Ives.
Developed from Robertson’s deep connection to Cornwall, the installation reflects the ever-changing forces that shape our natural world, inviting visitors to consider their own relationship with the landscapes, tides and celestial cycles that connect us all.
Presented as part of Pallant House Gallery’s Staircase Commission series, Howl continues the Gallery’s tradition of inviting leading contemporary artists to reimagine the heart of its historic townhouse through ambitious new commissions.
