By exploring works such as Apollo (1951) and Orpheus Maquette (1956), participants will discover how Hepworth used wire, string and line to create amazing 3D shapes, forms and spaces.
The workshop begins with continuous line drawing, learning how to use one unbroken line to draw a self-portrait or a portrait from a photograph of a friend or family member. Through looking closely and simplifying shapes, participants will capture the key features and character of a face.
These drawings will then become the starting point for a wire portrait sculpture. Participants will bend, twist and shape different types of wire to build their sculptures, adding details to give each portrait its own character. Finished sculptures will be mounted onto a base and illuminated to cast striking shadow portraits, which participants can then draw.
Our Easter Art Club is a series of studio workshops for children, exploring a range of media in a fun and friendly environment. These workshops are led by experienced artist educators who specialise in working with children and young people. They are designed for children aged 7+.
Parents or carers are not required to stay for these workshops, although you are welcome to do so should you prefer.
Please provide a packed lunch for your child.
There are 3 sessions to choose from. Pay £25 per session or get £2.50 off each workshop (10%) when you book 2 or more sessions. Just add your selected workshops to the basket and the discount will be applied at checkout.
