Take a look at our current volunteering roles to see if there’s something for you.
There are a wide range of volunteering opportunities at the Gallery which include supporting the work of our public programmes and safeguarding our collection and exhibitions as a Gallery Assistant. All volunteer roles include a full induction and training.
It’s been a great opportunity to see how a gallery works, while also learning from other volunteers and staff about the amazing collections on display.
Sarah, 18
Gallery Assistant
Help us safeguard the art in our collections and exhibitions.
Gallery Assistants are essential to our work – we quite literally cannot open our doors without them! This role is perfect for those wishing to be up close and personal with the art in our exhibitions or our collection of Modern British art, as it includes monitoring the gallery spaces within the historic house as well as the contemporary wing. The role also involves communicating with visitors, helping them to find their way around the building and answering or fielding enquiries.
Please note we are not accepting work experience applications.
Gallery Assistant - Late events
Support our series of Late events and experience the Gallery after hours.
We are seeking volunteers for our series of Late events at the Gallery over the summer months. Help us setup, greet guests and monitor the gallery spaces during evenings of live entertainment, talks, workshops and more. It is a fantastic experience to see our art up close, meet people with similar interests and experience working at a museum. So if you are 18 or over, why not join us this summer?
Gallery Guides
Bring our art to life for visitors.
Our Gallery Guides are some of our best ambassadors and play a crucial role in bringing to life the many stories of the Gallery, providing knowledgeable tours and talks on topics related to our collection, our exhibitions and the history and architecture of the Gallery itself. Our Guides lead a range of public and private tours for groups. This role is for those who have a strong interest in art history and a passion for sharing knowledge to enrich our visitors’ experience.

Office Volunteers
Keep the wheels in motion.
From time to time volunteering opportunities arise in the Commercial, Communications and Development teams. These are largely office administration based such as managing press cuttings and inputting visitor comments, but may also include specific tasks such as local distribution of marketing materials.
