Create your own Alfed Wallis inspired seascape in this enjoyable afternoon workshop.
Explore the unusual and playful way Alfred Wallis painted boats, the sea and the landscape around St Ives. Using everyday leftover and recycled materials, we’ll try out some of the ways Wallis built his pictures through a series of short exercises. We’ll look at shape, colour, composition and perspective before bringing these ideas together in a final landscape of our own.
You don’t need to worry about getting your drawing ‘right’. Wallis didn’t follow the usual rules of perspective, scale or proportion, and we’ll use this as a chance to forget some of the rules we’ve been taught too.
The workshop is about experimenting, trying things out and seeing what happens. Most of all, it’s about having fun making a landscape in your own way.
No drawing experience required. Beginners welcome.

Kate’s art practice includes creating art, art workshop tutoring, artist mentoring, community projects, talks, exhibiting, exhibition judging and curation.
As an artist educator Kate has run national and international workshops at Sotheby’s, the National Portrait Gallery, NHS, Outside In, Graylingwell Heritage Lottery Project, and as part of Wellbeing and Accessibility conferences internationally. She currently runs her own life drawing group.
Kate is also a Pallant House Gallery Community Programme Ambassador. Her art is held in collections worldwide, including Outside In.
