Taking inspiration from the British Landscapes: A Sense of Place exhibition at Pallant House Gallery, this workshop with artist Kate Simms explores the journey from observation to abstraction through drawing and acrylic painting.

Using photographic source material of the landscape around Chichester, you’ll be guided through a series of exercises to simplify and reinterpret natural forms. Working with line, shape and colour, you’ll gradually move from realistic representation towards a more abstract composition.

Encouraging experimentation and personal expression, the session supports you in developing your own visual language across both drawing and paint.

By the end of the workshop, you will have created a series of studies and an abstract acrylic painting based on your chosen landscape.
