This exhibition showcases a significant new addition to the Pallant House Gallery collection – The 20/20 Portfolio – which reimagines the nation’s art collections.
Commissioned by the Decolonising Arts Institute with funding from UAL, Arts Council England and Freelands Foundation, the 20/20 project is an ambitious nationwide programme which brought together 20 emerging artists of colour and 20 UK public art collections.
It responded to urgent calls for action within arts and culture to tackle social inequalities and racial injustices – amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic and in the wake of Black Lives Matter. The artists undertook residencies across the country to challenge how the nation’s collections tell their stories.
This led to the creation of newly commissioned works, a series of texts, and a public programme fostering dialogue between artists, curators and institutions. The portfolio is a collective representation of the working processes of the artists during their residencies.
This exhibition marks the first public showing of the complete portfolio – a dynamic collection of prints spanning a range of mediums and artworks at different stages of development.
