An 'instant art collection', including works by Peter Blake, Gavin Turk and Rachel Whiteread.

For many of us, owning a collection of art seems beyond both our budgets and display space. Gallerie Simpson’s ‘Selection Box’ aims to overturn that notion.

Like a good box of chocolates, the ‘Selection Box’ contains a mouthwatering selection of treats, with something for every tasteFrom watercolours, linocuts, woodblock prints, screenprints and even small sculptures, the ‘Selection Box’ reflects the wide variety of arts forms practised in Britain today.

The ‘Selection Box’ was developed by artist and gallerist Jane Simpson. It has helped to raise funds for Galerie Simpson, an independent art space in Swansea’s High Street.

The artists included are: Fiona Banner, Peter Blake, Ángela de la Cruz, Abigail Fallis, Tom Gidley, Georgie Hopton, Rachel Howard, Des Hughes, Gary Hume, Catrin Saran James, Michael Landy, Simon Periton, Jamie Reid, Jane Simpson, Sarah Staton, Gavin Turk, Rachel Whiteread and Clare Woods.

My idea for the ‘Selection Box’ was to create something that focused on the handmade and on smaller pieces. I wanted it to have something for everyone, like a good box of chocolates.

Jane Simpson, Curator

The ‘Selection Box’ is the latest acquisition through the Golder – Thompson Gift, a purchase fund established in 2001 to enable the Gallery to develop its collection of contemporary work.
