As part of our summer exhibition programme, British Landscapes: A Sense of Place and Haroun Hayward: Path through Trees, we are delighted to be collaborating with West Dean College for a special guided walk through the West Dean Estate.
Join exhibiting artist Haroun Hayward and archaeologist Mark Roberts for a circular walk exploring the landscape that informed Hayward’s current exhibition Path through Trees. The route will take participants through woodland, pasture and the Arboretum, with opportunities to stop, discuss the landscape and ask questions along the way.
Haroun Hayward’s exhibition emerged from his participation in a joint residency at Pallant House Gallery and West Dean College. During his residency at West Dean in 2025, Hayward worked in the Fine Art studios while immersing himself in the gardens and wider estate, experiences that directly inspired the works on display in Path through Trees.
Mark Roberts is a West Dean Fellow and former Field Tutor at University College London, where he led archaeological excavations in and around the West Dean Estate until 2022. He is internationally recognised for his discovery of the significant prehistoric site at Boxgrove.
