This workshop is inspired by the Print Room exhibition Ideas for Sculpture: Drawings and Maquettes, exploring how sculptors use drawings and maquettes as preparatory work for sculpture and the development of their ideas.

We start this workshop with a visit to the exhibition before returning to the Studio to explore a range of sculptural drawing techniques, working with direct observation of organic forms in a range of media including biro, charcoal, chalk and inks.

We’ll then transform our drawings into 3D clay maquettes and sculptural forms, learning modelling techniques and working with wire armatures.

Finally we’ll explore techniques to create surface texture using a range of tools and techniques including sgraffito.

If you have any further questions, or would like to discuss access needs, please do not hesitate to contact Rachel, Events Officer r.bingham@pallant.org.uk

Please note

Participants may wish to bring in natural organic forms such as fossils, stones, fir/pine cones, seeded fruits etc. which you might like to work from as inspiration for your sculptural forms, although various objects will also be provided.

We ask that you attend the workshop in comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting messy.

Price includes the cost of tuition, all materials and teas, coffees and biscuits. Please let us know if you have an allergies or dietary requirements and we will do our best to cater for you.

There is an option to purchase a Lunch Box provided by Pallant Café, this will be delivered to you during the break. The lunch box is £13 and a menu will be shared with you at the start of the workshop to make your selection.

Please ensure we have the correct contact information for you in case of any last minute changes.
