Explore the life of Eric Ravilious through his work in Sussex and the South Downs.
Although he was born in London, Eric Ravilious moved to Eastbourne as a boy. Youthful sketching expeditions in the Downs heralded a lifelong fascination for the Sussex landscape, which he depicted in countless wood engravings and watercolours.
This lecture looks in depth at masterpieces, such as Chalk Paths (1935), and introduces less familiar works, always keeping one eye on the pictures and one on the people – and stories – behind the scenes.
Tickets: £15 (including a glass of wine or soft drink)
Our galleries, including the Sussex Landscape: Chalk, Wood and Water exhibition will be open until 6pm. If you would also like to visit the exhibitions, you can book your ticket here. (Entry to the galleries is not included in event ticket).
