Glyn Philpot: Performing Identity
Free
[ Talk )
Join director and curator Simon Martin as he explores Glyn Philpot’s fascination with performance, ballet, costume and theatre.
Hear from Simon Martin, curator of our current exhibition and author of the accompanying monograph, on Glyn Philpot’s passion for performance and how his work shifted the boundaries of conventional portraiture.
As well as the Who’s Who of British society, Philpot’s sitters included actors, such as Glen Byam Shaw and Paul Robeson, ballet dancers, such as Tamara Karsavina and Andre Eglevskyand and poets and writers, such as Siegfried Sassoon. He also designed costumes for ballet productions and beautiful sculptures of performers.
Find out about all this and more in this in person talk at the Gallery.
Tickets to the talk cost £15 and include a glass of wine.
