Discover Dora Carrington in her own words, through her passionate, playful and honest letters that reveal her compelling personality and the different stages of her unconventional life.

Biographer Anne Chisholm will explore the artist through her letters ‘as a woman at the centre, not on the margins, of her world’, beautifully illustrated by extracts read by actor Lydia Leonard.

Speaker - Anne Chisholm

Anne Chisholm is a biographer and critic who has worked in journalism and publishing and is a former Chair of the Royal Society of Literature. Her books include lives of Nancy Cunard, Rumer Godden and Frances Partridge, and in 2017 she published a new selection of Dora Carrington’s letters.

Speaker - Lydia Leonard

Lydia Leonard is a British actor who has performed extensively on stage, for film and TV. Her work on stage includes her role as Anne Boleyn in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies. On television, she is known for her roles as Virginia Woolf in BBC Two’s Life in Squares (2015) and sitcom Quacks (2017) and the Amazon Prime series Ten Percent (2022). She also appeared in The Crown (2022–2023) on Netflix.
