Join director and curator Simon Martin as he explores the fascinating research behind the exhibition, Glyn Philpot: Flesh and Spirit
Hear from Simon Martin, curator of our current exhibition and author of the accompanying monograph, on the extraordinary lengths he went to, to bring the full story of Glyn Philpot to light.
From discovering the identity of anonymous sitters to tracing lost paintings around the world, find out what his research uncovered and why it was so important to reappraise the work of an artist who hasn’t had a major exhibition for almost 40 years.
For the first time in this exhibition, the full themes of Philpot’s work are considered through over 120 paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints. It will provide an opportunity to celebrate the work of an artist who created one of the most substantial and sensitive artistic records of the Black presence and of queer culture in Britain and Europe in the years before the Second World War.
This talk will be held via Zoom and will be recorded so that you can watch it back later. Once you have purchased your ticket you will receive an automatic email containing your link to the event.
