Meet the Printmakers: In Conversation with Rebecca Salter

Free

[ Online Talk )

This event has passed.

Join the conversation with Rebecca Salter and discover her printmaking process, the influences on her work and her innovative role at the Royal Academy.

In this first online talk in our series Meet the Printmakers, our curator, Louise Weller, will be sitting down for a chat via Zoom with Rebecca Salter.

Salter is one of the leading printmakers featured in our current printmaking exhibition, Hockney to Himid, creating woodblock sgraffito prints with a distinctive Japanese influence.

Moving to two-dimensional work after having initially studied ceramics, Salter’s prints are influenced by the tactile nature of working with clay. Further influences come from her time in Japan in the 1980s, which was to become a formative period in her development as an artist.

Salter has also made history as the first female president of the Royal Academy. She was first elected to the RA in 2014 as a printmaker, before being elected president in 2018.
