Tuesday 15th April

Carrington: Decorative Tile Making

Design a clay tile! Inspired by Carrington’s domestic designs, use your own illustrations to create your very own tile that represents an important day, person or place!

You will be using sgraffito techniques and coloured slip to paint and add details to your tile!

Once dry, your tile will be bisque fired. We will let you know when they are ready to collect, if you would like us to post it to you, we will charge an additional £10 for special delivery.

  • What is sgraffito? It is a pottery decorating technique that scratches away layers of colour to reveal colours underneath.
  • What is slip? It is a thick mixture of clay and water to be used to paint pottery for decorative purposes.
  • What is bisque firing? It is the first firing of ceramic pieces, making unfired bone-dry clay more durable with a matte finish.

Wednesday 16th April

Patterns: Printmaking

Create fun shapes – and repeat! We will be inspired by patterns from our collection display to design your own unique screenprinted fabric that will then be attached to your embroidery hoop to hang at home!

  • What is screenprinting? It is a printing technique that transfers ink onto a surface through a mesh screen around a stencilled design.

Thursday 17th April

Maggi Hambling: Mini Nature Scene

Cut out silhouettes of trees and other wildlife to create your own mysterious landscape inspired by Maggi Hambling’s new series of paintings created after she spent a night listening to nightingales in Sussex woodland! You will then use metallic pens to create a sparkling setting.
