Artist Educator Louise Dennis

Artist educator bio - Louise Dennis

Louise specialises in providing quality creative experiences that everyone can enjoy regardless of their previous knowledge of art. Providing instruction, alongside the encouragement of experimentation and personal discovery, she aims to create fun sessions exploring a range of materials and themes.

For Hove Museum she designed and facilitated creative sessions inspired by exhibitions and was co-artist in residence for six months, later employed freelance to manage the children and families service. For seven years she ran an over subscribed art based afterschool club focussing on the playful use of readily available materials to develop imagination and creative thinking. Other work includes designing and painting children’s murals in hospitals and for adults she co-ran an art group at The Studio Upstairs, arts and mental health charity. Currently, as well as work for Pallant House, she is a director of Starling Arts, offering free creative wellbeing sessions to older people in Brighton partnering with community centres and older peoples services.

Her art practice involves paper model making and photographed installation using recycled cardboard: playing with scale, dimension and materials as well as light and dark, to develop narratives.  Another strand is detailed pencil drawings that are concerned with tone rather than line to create narratives as well as pet portraits. Her MA project resulted in a short animation and a children’s picture book and she is currently working on another book. She is part of two collectives: The Story Cabinet and Fabula and has exhibited internationally with the latter.
