Trailblazers: Laura Knight and Marlow Moss
[ Talk )
Laura Knight and Marlow Moss both fought against the accepted norms of their day in order to live creative lives.
From establishing her own life-model studio in order to paint from the nude when female students were otherwise barred from doing so (Knight) to cross-dressing and living an openly lesbian life (Moss), this talk introduces the lives of just two trailblazing modern women artists who helped forge equality for female artists.
Dr Lucy Howarth, an expert on Moss, and Dr Alice Strickland, curator for the National Trust, introduce the life and work of these artists. Booksignings with the speakers will follow as part of the launch of Eiderdown Books – a new independent press specialising in art books about female artists.
