Rip, cut and stack, experimenting with pop-up techniques to construct your own architectural sculpture.
The day begins with some warm up activities, followed by an exploration of the exhibition spaces, focusing on abstract art works. We will make sketches of these works and will also respond in a theatrical way, using our bodies to represent the paintings. Back in the Studio we will use pop-up / paper engineering techniques to transform our sketches into sculptures, thinking of them as rooms in a house, a building, or a city.
10.30am – 3.30pm
All workshops take place in the Gallery and are led by professional artist educators. Please drop your children off in time to start at 10.30am and pick up at 3.30pm. In some cases, the workshop leader may invite you to return slightly earlier to see a presentation by the workshop participants. Children will stay in the Gallery all day.
All equipment will be provided and materials are included in the ticket price but please provide a packed lunch for your child*. Lunchbreaks will be supervised by Gallery staff.
Advance booking is essential. If you’re under 18, tickets must be booked in advance by a parent or guardian.
*The Gallery café offers a lunch option for your children. Our chefs will prepare your child’s lunchbox during the morning activities and have it ready for their lunch break. All packed lunches will include a cheese or ham roll, piece of fruit, yoghurt, Babybel and your choice of either a Fruit Shoot or bottle of water. All packed lunches are £5 each and must be pre-ordered on the morning of the workshop from the café counter on the ground floor.
