Paul Nash: Places
[ Special Event )
Open Weekend Talk
“There are places, just as there are people and objects and works of art, whose relationship of parts creates a mystery, an enchantment, which cannot be analysed.”
Paul Nash, Outline, 1949
Place was always significant to Paul Nash with locations such as Wittenham Clumps in the Thames Valley; Iden in Sussex; Dymchurch on the Kent Coast and the landscape surrounding Madams the Gloucestershire home of Charles and Clare Neilson to which Nash was a regular visitor, all inspiring his art and subject matter.
Drawing on our collections and archive this talk will give a brief introduction to some of these meaningful and special places.
