Approx 0.1 miles from the centre of Chichester
The Novium was designed by Keith Williams Architects, who have worked on many projects including the Wexford Opera House in Ireland and The Unicorn Theatre in London. Chichester is home to plenty of bold modern architecture. The Novium is a recent addition to the cityscape acting as "a bridge between the historic and new buildings". The building compliments the eclectic architecture of Chichester by using reinforced concrete finished to harmonise with the light coloured Caen of the Market Cross or the Quarr stone used in the Cathedral.
Taking inspiration from Roman architecture the design was open plan with large meeting spaces utilising natural light. A deep walnut veneer contrasts in colour and texture with the mica and quartz enhanced concrete, producing a clean and crisp finish to house the museum exhibits. With stunning rooftop views overlooking the Cathedral the overall effect creates a space to contemplate and reflect. Keith Williams says,"We see it as a transition space that lifts the spirits. Through the cathedral window one can look out across the old city from a place with an eye to the future."
