Pallant House Gallery has a particularly strong collection of modern religious art, and has close links with Chichester Cathedral.  The Gallery’s founding collection was bequeathed by Walter Hussey, Dean of the Cathedral, who commissioned artists and musicians such as Leonard Bernstein, Marc Chagall,Henry Moore, John Piper, Graham Sutherland to create work for the church. The tour  examines the religious symbolism and wider social and artistic context behind works by artists such as Ceri Richards, the German émigré Hans Feibusch, as well as Moore, Piper and Sutherland. It explores the role of the church as patron of the arts, in particular Dean Hussey and Bishop Bell.
