The exhibition will form part of the Brighton Artists Open Houses festival, a visual-arts festival that this year celebrates its 30th anniversary. Artists Open Houses is an open-to-all inclusive community event, reaching out to all areas of the city and showing work of experimental and nationally regarded artists, as well as school and college students. Outside In will be opening the Community Gallery with an exhibition featuring works by marginalised artists from the archive, some of whom are local to the Brighton area.

Outside In was launched by Pallant House Gallery in 2006 as a platform for artists who find it difficult to access the art world whether due to disability, health, social circumstance or art process. Marc Steene, Head of Learning and Community at Pallant House Gallery, describes the project as a "gentle revolution", creating a more equitable and fair art world.

The opening exhibition will be followed by other exhibitions throughout the year, with an emphasis on community, support and the promotion of local creative talent weaving throughout. Creative Communities (10 Sept-4 Nov 2011) will highlight the diverse range of people involved in the Community Programme at Pallant House Gallery in a series of striking and moving portraits created by the participants themselves.

The Brighton A5 Open Art Exhibition (26 Nov- 6 April) will be a unique opportunity for all types of artists to submit work for the first ever A5 open art exhibition. There will be awards including the chance to have an exhibition at the Gallery.

During the Artists Open Houses festival the Community
