The unique opportunity to gain exposure in a prestigious gallery, whilst also raising money for two very worthy causes, resulted in 141 artists signing up to the competition. A total of 350 pieces were entered this year, and standards have been so high that the judges had their work cut out to whittle entries down to just 60 selected works. The panel comprised of Ann Janes, a trustee of Pallant House Gallery, Marc Steene, Head of Learning and Community at Pallant House Gallery, Angela Wormald, chair of trustees at St Wilfrid's Hospice, and last year's 1st prize winner, Tiago Duarte.

All works in the exhibition will be for sale, ranging from as little as £45 to £1000. Following on from the success of last year's Open Art Exhibition which raised £4000, this year is expected to be no exception. With £400 covering the cost of one patient on the ward at St Wilfrid's Day Hospice, proceeds from the exhibition are invaluable in providing extra financial support. Proceeds from the exhibition will also go towards Outside In, set up by the Pallant House Gallery In 2006 to provide a platform for artists who find it difficult to access the art world.

Admission to the exhibition in the studio at Pallant House Gallery is free to the public. For more information about the Open Art Competition: www.openart.stwh.co.uk
