The Animals of David Jones at Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft

The exhibition at Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft will focus on Jones’ fascination with animals, which was present throughout his practice. Taking as its starting point the sketch for a mural of Christ entering Jerusalem on a donkey, which Jones painted in his Ditchling home, the exhibition will look at the animal motif as a way to further illuminate his complex body of work. On show will be woodcuts, carvings, drawings, oil paintings and woodblocks, including works that have never before been seen in public. The exhibition will be accompanied by a commission of new works by Mark Herald, an artist greatly inspired by David Jones’ animal works.
