Now in its third year, the St Wilfrid's Hospice Open Art Competition is a unique opportunity to gain exposure in a prestigious gallery whilst supporting a vital local charity. The previous two competitions have attracted a total of 250 submissions of art works from 164 different artists, raising £6500, and we hope to build on this for 2011.

About St Wilfrid's Hospice

Since the Hospice opened in 1987 we have cared for over 10,000 local people. At any one time, we provide specialist palliative care for around 210 people in our community who have advanced cancer, Motor Neurone Disease and other terminal illnesses as well as offering support to their families and friends. All our services are provided free of charge, we are not a part of the NHS and rely on public support to raise 85% of our annual running costs of £5.1 million.

About Outside In

Outside In was set up by Pallant House Gallery in 2006 to offer opportunities for marginalised artists. The main vehicle for Outside In is a biennial open art competition. It offers a series of awards and an opportunity for the award winners to have either a residency or a solo exhibition. Outside In is trying to create a level playing field where access to the art world is possible for all who create. The aim is not to turn people into ‘artists’, but to challenge the art world to embrace and make itself accessible to a wider range of individuals and ways of making.
