Sussex Modernism

Commences 4th July 2017 
Many of the leading writers, artists, composers, architects and patrons of British Modernism lived in Sussex during key moments of their lives. Led by lecturers in Modernism at the University of Sussex, this four session course will explore their lives, work, homes and attitudes to the county. Sessions include: Sussex Modernism and Retreat, Sussex Modernism and Domesticity, Sussex Surrealism and Sussex Modernism and the Landscape.

Over the course of five sessions, discover iconic masterpieces by great artists from the Renaissance to the present day, including some of the greatest works of art ever produced in Western European culture. Sessions include: The Renaissance, 17th Century Netherlandish Art, 18th Century British Art, Art of the 19th Century and the 20th/21st Century.

From Impressionism to the Turner Prize

A repeat of the sell-out 2016 course, this six session course now on Saturdays will follow the history of modern art from its beginnings in mid-19th century France to the early 21st century, exploring how some of this art can still cause excitement and outrage. Sessions include: Origins of Modern Art, Early 20th Century Modern Movements, Art Between the Wars, Post WWII Art, Modern Sculpture and Post-Modernism.

London Calling: Art Treasures of London

Commences 24th January 2018
A four session course exploring a wide variety of major masterpieces in London’s most significant galleries, from medieval works in the National and Courtauld Galleries, TATE Britain and Tate Modern’s brand new Switch House.
