Sussex Modernism

Led by Dr Hope Wolf, Lecturer in British Modernist Literature and co-director of the Centre for Modernist Studies at the University of Sussex and curator of ‘Sussex Modernism’ at Two Temple Place (28 January – 23 April 2017); also from University of Sussex, Dr Alistair Davies, visiting fellow; Dr Annabel Haynes, lecturer in Modernism; and Justine Shaw who is completing her PhD on Modernism.

Christopher Baker is an artist, teacher and author who exhibits widely in the UK and Canada, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions.

Colin Merrin RWS is an award-winning painter who was elected to the Royal Watercolour Society in 2009. His work is featured in many collections including the Royal Collection and the British Museum.

Caron Penney is a Master Tapestry Weaver who was the former Studio Director of the West Dean Tapestry Studio and has worked with Tracey Emin, Martin Creed and Gillian Ayres. Caron now runs her own studio in Sussex.

James Simpson is a poet who has had work published in Agenda, The London Magazine, Resurgence and The Hardy Society, and is a Jerwood/Arvon writing fellow.

Katie Sollohub has been artist-in-residence at JMW Turner’s House in Twickenham and her work has been selected for the RA Summer Show and The Jerwood Drawing Prize.
