Deepen your knowledge of art history with our expert tutors. Courses can be booked in full or as individual sessions and include refreshments. Suitable for all levels.

Examine the tensions around the concept of skill in 20th century British art, from the emulation of naïve art by Christopher Wood and Ben Nicholson in the 1920s to the desire for expressive freedom among David Hockney, R.B. Kitaj and many others in the 1950s and beyond.

Artists such as R.B. Kitaj, Lucien Freud and Gerald Laing abandoned the edgy simplicity of their early success for more naturalistic subjects and more traditional aesthetic appeal.

All participants will be sent information and a materials list prior to the course.

To book the full course or an individual session on any of our Art Courses please contact Reception on 01243 774557 / info@pallant.org.uk.
